Making Travel Easier with a Baby
Sometimes when parents have a baby it can seem just a whole lot easier to not do much or any traveling for the time being. Babies need so much stuff and the process of remembering it all from diapers to wipes, various outfits to an insulated bottle bag, can become daunting. But in fact, babies can get by with less than you might think, in most parts of the world if you need something you can find it, and once you have a list prepped and some experience under your belts, traveling with a baby might be easier than you first thought. Here are some tips to help.
Knowing what to pack
When it comes to clothing, pack two outfits for each day. One main, and one just in case! Then you need one set of nightclothes per night traveling too. The type of clothing you pack depends on where you are traveling to, make sure it is appropriate to the weather there. Pack layers if it is cold and include a snowsuit, hat, mittens and such. If it is somewhere sunny, make sure you include light clothing, sunscreen, and sun hats. An insulated water bottle 1 litre is also a good idea.
Then there are the essential items, diaper cream, diapers, wipes, bibs, bottles, cups, pacifiers, baby blanket, utensils and such. Make sure to bring a car seat for when you are getting into other cars or using the bus.
See the baby's doctor
If you are leaving the country then there are some places that your baby should not visit until they have had certain shots. Take your baby into their doctor well ahead of your travel dates and talk to them about what vaccinations are needed.
Baby feeding while traveling
Generally breastfeeding is actually easier to do than bottle feeding when you are traveling, have a privacy blanket you can use when in public, or on the flight get a seat that offers better privacy. Make regular stops of traveling by car and if on a bus seat yourself at the back somewhere. If the baby is being bottle-fed there is more to bring and think about like an insulated bottle bag. Bring enough bottles and always take more formula than you really need. Keep some safe snacks ready for older babies who are on solid foods. Think about bringing an insulated water bottle 1 litre.
Summary
While there is at first a lot to think about, especially if you have more children than just the one baby, once you have that list prepared, it can guide you each time you travel. After a couple of trips, visits to family or vacations you will know what things are important, and what is not. Be sure to do a double check before you leave so that you know you have the essentials and make sure those vaccinations happen if they are needed. The last thing you want to do is put your baby's health at risk. Then you can relax and enjoy the travel hopefully!
