Not all Vending Machines are Made the Same

Vending machines are a staple of public places in America. Especially in hotels and airports, vending machines are the way many people get food during their time there. But there are some key differences between a hotel vending machine and an airport vending machine.

Difference in Prices

An airport vending machine and a hotel vending machine will not have the same prices. While vending machines within hotels traditionally sell snacks for one to two dollars, airport vending machines tend to charge more. This is because people entering airports have no other place to go, so they are forced to use the vending machine. Hotels, in contrast, charge a more traditional rate as they know their customers can enter and leave at their own leisure.

Differences in Goods

When you go to a hotel you will almost always find snacks within their vending machines. This is not the same when you go to an airport. Airports sell a massive variety of goods, including headphones, chargers, and at some locations even clothes. This disparity in the types of goods offered is so that airports can capitalize on people forgetting items and being unable to leave due to their flight leaving. Hotels, on the other hand, offer normal snacks so that their guests can remain comfortable without having to leave the hotel.

Why are they so different?

Airports and hotels are radically different locations. Airports are dreaded, a step on the road to a usually preferable place. A hotel tends to be one of the final locations, the destination people are looking forward to. Airports also need to generate as much income as they can, using many different sources like vending machines, to stay operational. Hotels, on the other hand, can charge you directly above what you are costing them, so maintaining the operation is easier.

Conclusion

Contrary to popular belief, hotel vending machine are not all the same, they are not even all made by the same company. The difference between an airport and a hotel vending machine is not one that can be understated, as they differ on several points, including prices and the goods within.
