Are Vapes Safe?

Okay, we will start this piece with a little spoiler – the answer is yes, yes they are. But, it’s more complicated than a simple answer like that. It is not safe for children. Nicotine is not generally a harmful chemical, but it is harmful to developing bodies as it can stunt growth and cause underdevelopment of certain organs and even certain neural paths. However, for an adult body that is fully mature, nicotine itself isn’t actually all that harmful. It is highly addictive, which is arguably a problem, but it doesn’t do any physical long-term harm to the body.

Granted, in high concentrations, nicotine is a harmful chemical, historically having been used as a form of pest control. However, the amount of concentrated nicotine necessary to become toxic is extremely higher than what is available in vapes or cigarettes alike. Most nicotine vapes have a nicotine dosage of about 5 mg, a very low dosage comparable to a cigarette. Lower amounts of nicotine are available, all the way down to less than a milligram, as well as nicotine-free vapes which makes it an excellent way to wean oneself off of nicotine altogether if you are trying to quit.

Now, a cigarette, when you inhale the smoke, is giving you carcinogenic chemicals, all kinds of crap added by the cigarette manufacturers, as well as ash. The only part of that that you actually want is the oil released when the tobacco burns, this contains the flavor as well as the nicotine. A vaping, conversely, is made up of a glycerin base, a different source of nicotine and some sort of artificial flavoring. All three of these have been documented for over a century and have been proven to be essentially harmless to a mature adult body. That glycerin base is commonly used in things like toothpaste, party foggers and even for inhalers and vaporizers for medical purposes. The alternative source of nicotine has been used for patches and gums and the flavoring is our present in just about everything we eat and inhale these days.

Added bonuses are the fact that they don’t produce any secondhand smoke, you aren’t actually inhaling smoke with a vape. It is simply that juice evaporated, and when you exhale, it dissipates almost instantly. It does not remain in the air, it does not leave any residual odor, no ashes produced and no nasty cigarette butts are produced.

In the event that you actually exhale this in someone’s space, which can happen by accident, the worst that would happen is they may sneeze from the moisture it produces. It won’t do them any harm, they won’t even get any nicotine content, the way the vape juice works, the body absorbs all of the nicotine before you exhale even if it is done quickly.

So yes, by sheer science alone if nothing else, vapes are very safe. If you’re interested in still enjoying your “smoke”, but want to live healthier, Shosha is the leading vape shop in New Zealand and the preferred vape store to shop for Vape Shed, alt vape and Vuse among others.
