Some of the Great Nature Reserves of India
India is a wonderful mix of urban centres and rural farmland, but there is also a lot of national parks, reserves, forests and other habitats full of fauna and flora. They are home to many rare species too like the Asiatic Lion, the Bengali Tiger, peacocks, and more. If you are thinking of heading to such a park, like the Satpura national park you will be amazed at what you see and experience and at what pictures and memories you can create. Here are some of those great nature reserves.
Visit Gir National Park
This park in the Gujarat region is not just a reserve that is a part of the Project Tiger initiative where selected parks have been chosen to home tigers, it is also a place you can find Asiatic lions as well as the One Horned Rhinoceros. It was established about 70 years ago and over the years has been expanded a few times to reach its current one thousand square kilometres.
Check out Kanha National Park
Another tiger reserve this one is in Madhya Pradesh, established in the 1950s it is now over one thousand square kilometres of land dedicated to the faunal and flora that live there. It is the park that inspired Kipling’s Jungle Book and you can see barasingha, tigers, jaguars, birds, leopards and more.
Take a look at Satpura National Park
Found also in Madhya Pradesh it is one of the best reserves in the country and has won awards for its beauty and for being a visitor-friendly destination. It is a stunning place with a lot to see and is also known as Satpura tiger reserve, it too is a part of the Project tiger initiative. There is a forest that is home to a range of species and that includes a number of threatened and endangered species including the Bengali tiger. It is a very important part of India’s ecosystem.
Head to Kaziranga National Park
Found in the Indian state of Assam, this park is also a World Heritage Site as stated by UNESCO. It is a place you can see things like deer, tigers, horned rhinos, wild buffalo and elephants. It was first commissioned in 1904.
Explore Bandhavgarh National Park
As well as Satpura tiger reserve another great place to explore for tigers is this park which is why it is one of the most popular Indian reserves. A lot of Bollywood movies have been filmed here and it was started in 1968. This is the park with the highest numbers of tigers but you can also see chikara, wild boar, leopards, nilgai, deer and barasingah.
See Periyar National Park
Found in Kerala this park is a more recent one, being established in 1982. It has over nine hundred square kilometres and includes the Indian elephant. This is a great place to visit for an elephant safari. You can also see many different mammals and birds as well as flora.
